He was one of the mostnoticeable members of the Reform Club, though he seemed always to avoidattracting attention; an enigmatical personage, about whom little wasknown, except that he was a polished man of the world. People said that heresembled Byron--at least that his head was Byronic; but he was a bearded, tranquil Byron, who might live on a thousand years without growing old.Certainly an Englishman, it was more doubtful whether Phileas Fogg was aLondoner. He was never seen on 'Change, nor at the Bank, nor in thecounting-rooms of the "City"; no ships ever came into London docks ofwhich he was the owner; he had no public employment; he had never beenentered at any of the Inns of Court, either at the Temple, or Lincoln's Inn,or Gray's Inn; nor had his voice ever resounded in the Court of Chancery,or in the Exchequer, or the Queen's Bench, or the Ecclesiastical Courts. Today we got school pictures taken at that place. School pictures is when you wear your bestest dress. And you go to the cafeteria. And a cheese man is there. He makes you say cheese. Only I dont actually know why. Then he takes pictures of you. And your mother has to buy them. Or else you will get your feelings hurt. School pictures is a racket, I think. I wore my new dress with the dinosaur on the front. A dinosaur, huh? said the cheese man. I smoothed my skirt very lovely. Yes, I said. It is a Tyrannosaurus Dottie. You mean Tyrannosaurus Rex, he said. No. I mean Tyrannosaurus Dottie. Cause Rex is the boy. And Dottie is the girl, I explained. The cheese man stood behind his camera.6Say cheese, he told me. Yeah, only guess what? I dont actually know why I have to say that word. Cause whats cheese got to do with it? I asked. Cheese makes you smile, said the cheese man. I shook my head. Not me. Cheese doesnt make me smile, I said. Cause sometimes I eat a cheese sandwich for lunch. And I dont even giggle when I swallow that thing. The cheese man did a big breath. Could you please just say it? he asked. Yes, I said. I can please just say it. Only dont forget to tell me when youre ready. Cause one time my grampa Frank Miller was taking my picture. And he didnt tell me he was ready. And then one of my eyes turned out opened. And the other one turned out closed. I made the face to show him. See? See my eyes? See how one of them is opened and the other one is…

The B stands for Beatrice. Except I dont like Beatrice. I just like B and thats all. And guess what else? B rhymes with P. And P stands for pet. And pet reminds me of what happened at my school today. First, I was sitting at my table doing my work. Then all of a sudden, my teacher stood up. And she clapped her loud hands together. Her name is Mrs. She has another name, too. But I just like Mrs. and thats all. Boys and girls! May I have your attention, please? she said. Ive got some very exciting news. Next week is National Pet Week. And to help celebrate our wonderful pets, Room Nine is going to have Pet Day! I springed up from my chair real thrilled. HURRAY, PEOPLE! HURRAY! HURRAY! WERE GOING TO HAVE PET DAY! I shouted. My feet skipped all around the room. Cause they wanted to spread the news, thats why! PET DAY! WERE GOING TO HAVE PET DAY, CHARLOTTE! I hollered. PET DAY! WERE GOING TO HAVE PET DAY, JAMAL! PET DAY! WERE GOING TO HAVE PET DAY, YOU MEANIE JIM I HATE! Just then, Mrs. grabbed me by my spenders. Spenders is the grownup word for the straps that hold your pants up.I looked around very worried. Yeah, only heres the problem, I said. If you pull off the spenders—boom—the pants fall down. Mrs. did a frown at me. Sit…down…right…now, she said real scary. I did a gulp. Will do, I said. Then I hurried up back to my seat. And Mrs. went to the front of the room again. She told us all the rules about Pet Day. She said that Pet Day will be

A nouncement is the school word for listen to me…and I MEAN it.My teachers name is Mrs. She has another name, too. But I just like Mrs. and thats all. Mrs. told us that we are going to have a special day in Room Nine. And it is called Valentimes Day.She said that valentimes are special cards about friendship. And all of us in Room Nine are going to give them to each other! My bestest friend Lucille squealed real happy. Oooo! I love getting cards, Teacher! she said. I especially love getting the kind with money in them. Money is my favorite kind of mail! Me, too, Lucille! I said. Money is my favorite kind of mail, too. Plus also I enjoy the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. Mrs. did a chuckle. Well, Im sorry, girls. But Im afraid there wont be money in our valentines, she said. In Room Nine we will just be sending happy wishes to each other. But it will still be lots of fun. She smiled. We will be making a special valentines box to hold all the cards. And on the day of our party, I will personally deliver the cards to each one of you, she explained. Just then, I jumped right out of my chair. Cause nobody even mentioned a party before! Hurray! I yelled. Hurray for parties! Can we have cake and doughnuts, Mrs.? And what about cheese popcorn and cotton candy and pretzels and candy apples? I thought some more. Plus also well need red licorice and peanut butte

I just like B and thats all. I am almost six years old. Almost six is when you get to go to school. And so, last summer Mother took me to the school office. And she rolled me in afternoon kindergarten. Rolled is the grown-up word for signed me up and made me go.Only guess what? I dont even mind going there, hardly. But I just like Mrs. and thats all. Only here is the trouble. Just when I was getting good at kindergarten, Mrs. made a nouncement to our class. And she said that pretty soon, school is going to end! I did a gasp at that terrible news. No, Mrs.! No, no, no! How can school end? Cause Mother said I have to go to school till I am an old teenager. And I am not even six years old yet! Mrs. quick shaked her head. Oh dear, Im sorry, Junie B., she said. Im afraid that youve misunderstood me. School isnt going to end forever. School will just be taking a summer vacation. She smiled at me. You, and everyone else in this class, will come back to school in September. Its just that you wont be in Room Nine anymore. I quick got out a paper and crayon. Okey-doke. Then tell me the name of our new room, I said. Cause I will need to tell Mother where to bring me. Mrs. did a little frown. Im sorry, she said again. But right now, I have no idea what room you
